The Cats and the Fiddle is the Shuswap band that features fiddles and six part vocals with intricate harmonies. Susan Aylard on fiddle, Sonja Heide on fiddle and guitar, Anita Liebich on piano, Heather Harris on guitar, Adrienna MacKnee on drums and most recently, Natalie Sherwood on bass.
This is a high energy, all girls band worth checking out.
They played their first gig at Spirits' Bar and Grill at the Prestige Inn on Oct.30, 2003. This "Spiked Coffee House" featured the Cats and the Fiddle the last Saturday of the month for almost a year. The band is mostly instrumental with fiddle music from the East Coast to the West Coast, a little Bluegrass, a hint of Classical and a whole lot of fun. The vocal numbers sound like a mix of the Wailin'Jennys and the Rankin Sisters. Currently borrowing music from these bands and other folk/fiddle bands, the Cats have slowly been adding their own originals and arrangements. Having heard them once, expect to hear something different the next time. These women keep experimenting with other instruments, Adrienna the fiddlesticks, Anita her mom's accordian, Sonja the mandolin and penny whistle and Susan keeps practicing her dance steps while fiddling. All of the ladies come from diverse musical backgrounds that make picking up new instruments easy..
